Calculating Remittiturs
This note reviews several methods proposed for calculating the amount of an appropriate remittitur using a sample of “comparable” cases. It recommends a simple quantile estimate. A remittitur is a post-trial procedure that may arise after a plaintiff has established liability and is awarded damages by the jury. Under U.S. law, the defendant may move for a new trial, or, in the alternative, a re...

results from a more detailed model, but do they reproduce the REAL world?) What do these approx. mean in terms of applications in a model (regional/global) i.e. show results from an application of the approximations. Also maybe there could be some physical discussions of the functional forms (e.g. Eq. 5 are these models physically based and parsimonious?) The figures are rather poor in terms of...
متن کاملComment on the use of the method of images for calculating electromagnetic responses of interacting spheres.
In this Comment, I argue that the method of images used by Huang, Yu, and Gu [Phys Rev. E 65, 021401 (2002)] and Huang, Karttunen, Yu, Dong, and Gu [Phys Rev. E., 69, 051402 (2004)] to calculate electromagnetic properties of interacting spheres at finite frequencies is inapplicable and does not provide a physically meaningful approximation.
متن کاملComment on the Alday-Maldacena solution in calculating scattering amplitude via AdS/CFT
Following the recent proposal of Alday and Maldacena to obtain the strong coupling scattering amplitude in N = 4 SYM theory via AdS/CFT, we point out that a unique solution can be obtained by imposing all the Virasoro constraints. This solution is identical to the Alday-Maldacena solution for the four-point case which is in accordance with the ansatz of Bern, Dixon and Smirnov. We show that thi...
